I would translate it such:

Kämpft bis zum Tod für das Vaterland.

BTW, I was a member of the FBB (Führer Begleit Bataillon in WWII.

I have a lot of Endkampf literature, and I can't say I've specifically seen "fight to the end(or dead) for fatherland"; there's a lot of talk about existence and destruction "Sein/Nichtsein", fighting to the last round/last man, dying an honourable death, e.g. these two appeals from Hanke in Breslau.

Our task as men is to do everything which it necessary to support the troops fighting. I call upon the men of Breslau to join the defence of our fortress. The fortress will be defended to the last.

and

The Gau capital shall be defended as a fortress to the last. No man shall leave his post.

Particularly in the East, many of the appeals are directed at men to keep fighting to allow women/children to be evacuated, e.g:

Your wives and children, your mothers look at you with firm hope and devout faith. Their fate rests with your courage and your steadfastness. With this in mind, steel your hearts in every battle. Defy all dangers unshakeably, do not shy away from any sacrifice, united we will turn around the fate of our Reich.

Herr Salvermoser is correct in the absolute, my Mothers father(alte Opa Radtke, RKdEK) remembers it well and he was in Berlin to the last day!
