:D

This matter (Genio) is a very confusing one, I understand (and for Italian people too).

Artieri is (or, better, was) one of the several "specialities" of Genio (engeneers).

After the war, in the 50s IIRC, all the Artieri units changed their names in Pionieri (Pioneers).

Generally (very much so!) speaking the Engeneers were (and are) divided into 2 different "families": those who built and/or operated special or particular machines (Artieri, Pionieri, Pontieri, Telefericisti, Fotoelettricisti, Ferrovieri... etc.; all these word to be preceeded by the word Genio. Practically all these specialities are "dead" nowdays) and those who destroied things, mainly the Guastatori - Combat Engeneers (?).

Best regards
