Here's the 9th letter - this time on a post card inside an envelope and written again in pencil.

Liebe Mutter!
Deine letzten Briefe und die beiden Päckchen
mit Kuchen, unausprechliche[m] Gebäck etc.
p.p. habe ich mit vielem Dank erhalten. Auch
vorher waren die Pakete stets vollständig.
Jetzt ist ja wieder eine ordentlich kalt hier [there must be a word missing] und
ein Schnäpslein ist nicht zu verachten. Likör (?) ist
zwar eine schmackhafte Angelegenheit. Doch zu
ärztlichen Zwecken ist er wenig geeignet. Lass

also die Likörflasche ruhig im Geschäft. Die
Einlegesohlen helfen allerdings nicht besonder[s]
viel. Die Kälte geht nach einiger Zeit doch
durch die Schuhe. Na ja, von weitem winkt
doch der Frühling schon. Heute bekam ich wieder
einen ganzen Berg von Postalitäten von allen
Gegenden Deutschlands, sogar ein Kuchenpäckchen
von Tante Paula (hört - hört). Wenn Du irgendwo
Füllhaltertinte ergattern kannst, schicke mir doch
bitte davon.

Dear mother!
I received your latest letters and the two parcels with cake, unpronouncable pastry etc. with best thanks. Even before the parcels were always complete [nothing missing].
Now it's quite cold again here, and a little schnapps cannot be dispised. Liquor is tasty indeed, but not suitable for medical use. So just leave the liquor bottles at the shop.
The insoles don't help very much. The cold eventually gets through the shoes anyway. Well, spring isn't that far away anymore.
Today I got mail from all over Germany, even a packet of cake from aunt Paula (ah, listen to this!).
If you can get hold of some ink for pen please send me some of it.

I think the word on the bottom is "Nachbarn", so it would read:

FPN 07745 belonged (15/2/40) to 3. Lichtmeß- Batterie Beobachtungs-Abteilung 34. Subordinated to the 34. Infanteriedivision.

Sorry Richard. I meant that I will post letter number 10 on the forum sometime later today.
Hiltraut has spent some considerable time translating the earlier letters I posted. All transcriptions and translations are now complete for letters 1 - 9. Thank you both for your help so far.
