Feldgrau invasion
Today again the site is swormed with sex ads and useless posts of virtually the same category of SPAM(Spam is supposed to be locked up in a can ,hey that rhimes! but not on this forum) isn't there a tool for the mods to use a restriction that means one could only post links after a 10-15 posts that are worth the effort?? i know this restriction of posting weblinks from another website...and it works to!!!

Yeah, what Jason said! When I was awarded admin powers, I started keeping track of the numbers of spammers I deleted. I don't even bother anymore!
It is nothing for me to log an, and delete half a dozen porn posts. When I delete members who have obviously joined to spam, it is easy for me to zap upwards of 20 at a time! Now, imagine doing that 5-7 times a week!
One problem with a community forum like this is that all worthies are welcome. Unfortunately, because we leave the gates unlocked to welcome new friends, scoundrels are quick to take advantage of the fact. Fear not! As soon as we recognize a scoundrel, he is removed!
As it happens, I just answered a PM about this. You and any of your friends that you care to invite can know that we are doing all we can to end this scourge.

Hi Guys,
A side effect is that sometimes can't log on at all. (Do I hear a few cheers in the background?). I normally use a public library terminal with a very strong security system. If it picks up key words in the spams it will block access.
I have known one site (Ecuaforo) that has become so entirely paralysed by such spams that it has ceased to function because the genuine posters were leaving such a small minority of posts, the rest being spams.
So, many thanks to the moderators who are fighting the battle against spam here on Feldgrau.
Cheers,
Sid.

Here's another one:

The link leads right to an ad. I notice the poster is not even registered, but is a "guest" - can you post as a guest now?
cheers

If I'm understanding the way such things work correctly, it's not a good idea to include the kind of words in your posts when you're complaining about such things that might attract more of it... ie, if you say in a post 'there's too much *p&r*n or s%x ad_s in here' (see what I've done there?), the presence of such terms on this board may well attract more.
I can't remember what the registration process was like here, but many sites now employ one of those 'enter the hidden characters to confirm' devices just to ensure you're a real user and not some web bot type thing. Might be a lot of work to implement tho.
