Franz Seidler's book about the Volkssturm contains a lot of picture while the men are training in their civilian clothing. They only got an armband as 'uniform'.
Always in need for info about: Dutchmen in the NSKK, HJ and TeNo.

I can't answer about Volkssturm units in general, but there was a unit called the Freikorps Sauerland, which was was set up in Westphalia in late 1944 and comprised several battalions and a regimental staff. I did some research on them in particular a while back and there's a book available about them from the city archives of Unna called "Freikorps Sauerland im Deutschen Volkssturm - Suedwestfalens' Letztes Aufgebot 1944/1945" by Willy Timm.

The Freikorps Sauerland were equipped with uniforms, mainly from Organisation Todt and the Reichsarbeitsdienst, and also carried equipment to include helmets. They even had their own insignia (an arm shied, a cuff title and a helmet decal). The West Point museum has one of the Freikorps Sauerland helmets in its collection. The Willy Timm book has several photos showing members of the Freikorps Sauerland in uniform.
