Weimar Republic internal troubles
Now, I've read some accounts of the Weimar Republic's internal chaos. Also, I know that Prussia had consolidated the various German states into the post Sedan Empire. Did any of the Lander attempt to gain independence from the post war Republic and did the Reichswehr have to commit itself to substantially to prevent a breakup and how substantial of a role did the Freikorps have in this?

There where no attempt's to regain independence by force. The external threat due to the lost war was still to big by my opinion.
Other on the political side. The southern German states where satisfied with the situation. But at least my homeland of Hannover was not. There was a political movement to regain independence by political meanings. The Welfen party never got enough power to seriously get out of the german reich. The economic situation of the 1920s was also not in favor to a small independent Hannover without much industry.
