Highly Decorated Luftwaffe Hauptmann Tunic

Post by hucks216 »

A great chance to obtain a highly decorated DKiG & Spanish Cross Luftwaffe Pilot's tunic with the rank of Hauptmann. The tunic is un-named but the amount and position of the ribbon loops (8 sets) possibly indicate a pilot, and with the amount of awards it is entirely possible that this airman was a Knights Cross winner, but that is just a reasonable assumption.

The awards shown are just to demonstrate the amount of loops although the ribbon bar will remain with the tunic as it was with it when I obtained it.

The negative side: There is a stain on the lower left flap that is on the front & reverse and also on the left sleeve. It looks like it could be a dirt or water stain and I am sure that this could be removed with a proper clean but I will leave that to someone who knows what they are doing in that respect. It is in the same condition as I received it. Images show the stain on the inside and out.
A little of the stitching along the top of the liner has come loose (possibly due to the forceful removal of a tailors/name label but that is just a guess) and there are some stitches on the inside of the left side (i.e. the non-eagle side) but they don't seem to conicide with the ribbon bar loops as the stitches are almost horizontal. All other stitching appears solid.

Despite these relatively small points this is a fantastic chance to obtain a highly decorated Luftwaffe officers tunic.

The first 2 photos show the tunic with camera flash & without.

Something strikes me as a bit odd here. The tunic belongs to a Hauptmann who appears to be a veteran of WWI with the bar to the EK II and a WW I EK II ribbon on the ribbon bar. The fellow would seem a bit elderly to have been flying around years later in WW II with such heroism as to earn a DKiG.

I have no idea if the ribbon bar is period original to the tunic but as it was with it when I obtained the tunic I'll leave it there. Maybe a previous owner put any spare LW ribbon bar on (which is a pin back, not sewn on) just to fill up the loops. I do exactly the same when I need to fill the loops for a tunic, and the same applies to the award loops. But if someone wants me to remove it then I'm quite happy to.
