Mein Liebstes!
Anbei ein Muster. Ich hoffe, dass es Dir
so Recht ist. Die Schrift ist nicht ganz nach
meiner Erwartung ausgefallen. Hättest Du
gerne Zahnarzt noch darauf vermerkt ge-
habt!
Leider bin ich gestern abend nicht mehr zum
Schreiben gekommen. War zu lange im
Kasino bei interessanten Tischgesprächen.
Schluss für heute, der Brief muss gleich zur
Post.

O.K. den 31.5.43.
Liebe Gertrud!
Deinen lb. Brief vom 23. habe ich mit
großer Freude erhalten. Ich danke Dir auch
vielmals dafür. Wie ich aus Deinen
Zeilen lese geht es Dir soweit noch gut.
Ich kann von mir auch immer
nur Gutes berichten. Wie ich inzwischen
in Erfahrung gebracht habe, ist Gorch Herbert
vermißt, das ist schlimm so was, nun
einer nach dem andern wird aus
unserem Kreise gerissen. Soll das
stimmen daß Er mit dem Schiff unter-
gegangen ist? Lb. Gertrud ich möchte
für heute schließen ich komme sehr
wahrscheinlich über Pfingsten in
Urlaub dann können wir uns ja
mündlich aussprechen. Alles Gute und
herzliche Grüße sendet Dir Dein Freund Theodor.(?)

The writing did not quite meet my expectations.
Would you have liked dentist noted on it?
Unfortunately I did not find the time last night to write.
Was too long in the Casino with interesting table conversations.
That's all for today, the letter has to go to the mail.

Dear Gertrud!
I received your dear letter from the 23. with great joy.
I thank you very much for it as well. As I can read
from your lines, you are doing fine so far.
About me I can also report only good things always.
In the meantime I found out that Garch Herbert (?)
is missing in action, something like that is so bad, now
one after one is torn from our circle. Should that
be true that He went down with the ship? Gertrud, I would
like to close for today, I will probably come on vacation
for Pentecost, then we can verbally talk about things.
