(Schw.)Pz-Jag.Abt "C" - Summer '43 AG Sud?

Post by Sean Oliver »

This unit appears in the Zitadelle OB for July 1943 attached to XXXXII AK, yet Tessin does not mention it in vol. 14. Sometimes it is refered to as a 'schwere' abteilung, sometimes not.
Does anyone know what this unit consisted of? My 1st guess is they are newly deployed 88 Pak AT guns, but maybe not....T.I.A.

s.H.Pz.Jg.Abt. C was the preliminary unit designation for what was later during July 1943 renamed to s.H.Pz.Jg.Abt. 663. It was equipped with towed 8,8 cm Pak 43/41 guns. If you are able to read German you can find some additional information here: http://forum.panzer-archiv.de/viewtopic ... 854#103854

Yess! My guess was correct...Pak 41/43s. Thanks a ton, Martin.
According to the KOSAVE report, the 3 Inf Div of LII AK (167., 255., and 322.) each had 6x 8,8cm Pak attatched on or about July 20 1943. It seemed logical that those 88s would've come from some GHQ unit, and Pz.Jag.Abt C was the likeliest candidate.
