Unidentified luftwaffe graves nuneaton

Post by tharkin56 »

Is their any possiblity of identifying two unknown luftwaffe crew who were shot down over coventry in October 1940. There bodies were claimed by the RAF and they were then buried in nuneaton cemetery in warwickshire.
Any assitance greatly appreciated

You would need to know where the bodies were recovered from to stand any chance. The Air Historical Branch cite losses from the Luftwaffe during October 1940 as being over 60 aircraft lost due to enemy action. A good source for getting some idea of the daily losses and background to the air war over the UK is Battle of Britain, Then & Now as well as The Blitz, Then & Now. I recommend both publications highly.

However, if these men could not be identified in 1940 then there is little hope of them being named after 68 years.
