Waffenfarbe for Jagers

Post by jager2000 »

I was wondering if anyone could tell me whether when the newly formed Jager divisions were formed from the old light infantry divisions if all the waffenfarbe was changed from white to light green immediately or whether there would have been a bit of both for some months with only the oakleaves arm patch to distinguish them ?

Grüß Gott Jager2000,

I don't know for sure about the change in Waffenfarbe, but all of the light infantry divisions (5, 8, 12, 28, 97, 100, and 101) were renamed "Jäger" Divisions in June 1942. The Jäger Oakleaf sleeve and cap insignia were not introduced until October 1942. Hope that helps you out.

Thanks BergführerKiser, at least that sorts out the arm patch and cap insignia. I suspect if they got the those in October, it makes sense that they probably got the new waffenfarbe then as well.......unless anyone knows different ?
