I'm reading now a lot about operation Market - Garden. I came to a conclusion that it was rather not possible to finish nazi Germany in 1944 via Montgomery plan of securing bridges and pressing into Germany proper. Even if parachute operation did succed how could allied forces have been supplied wit...

Hi Morden, Werner Haupt wrote a book about Heeresgruppe Nord. A pretty good one at that. And there are many others as well. There are also plenty of books regarding the operations of Heeresgruppe Mitte. Most of them are in German afaik. If you don't mind reading German take a look at this site. htt...

Sol Littman's book on the Galicia division has been the subject of a great deal of controversy. He is a Jewish journalist with ties to the Simon Wiesenthal Centre, and the source of a number of dubious claims of war crimes against the Division. One of which was the claim that the division had parti...

In 1939 if I remember it properly one cavalry brigade (1st) was deployed in East Prussia and acted as screening force on quite long border. During Barbarossa one Cavalry division (1st) was used. It was incorporated in 2nd Pz Group and operated in northern region of Pripet marshes. This division was ...

Hi All, It occurs to me that the scope for Polish collaboration was much less than elsewhere because the Germans were simply not looking for a collaborationist Polish administration. The Germans simply ceased to recognise the Polish state and absorbed it entirely into the Reich. No centralised pupp...

I looked at a couple which were quite helpful. Does anyone know anything about the guys (Lt. Gen Wladyslaw Anders and Antonio Munoz) who wrote the article at: http://www.feldgrau.com/rvol.html? Whether they are members of this forum. That article was very good and very informative, I'd like to cont...

Hi to all! This topic cought my attention so I descided to put some light on the "polish question". 1. Despite Orzels remarks (or lack of manners) there was plenty of Polish collaboration. Out of 7 Blue-police regiments in Galicia, one is clearly marked as "polish" - that is mad...

Very interesting topic though very unpleasant in outlook. The discussion is not kept civil almost from all sides. I want to thank Sid G. for calming down individuals and trying to influence others to behave properly. I co-operated with him at the topic on Warsaw Uprising and I really liked it. I hav...

Leon Degrelle - 'Eastern front'

I was given that book on Christmas and read it in one day. The story is fascinating - apart from glorifying nazi system and Hitler. The accounts on battles fought and the style of writing are first class. What's funny Degrelle always fought with soviets soldiers of asiatic origin, Kalmuks, Kirgizi e...
