FJR 6 in Normandy

Post by WAKEN »

I have 2 books (Zetterling's Normandy 1944 and The German Army at D-Day edited by David Isby). Here are some details from the 2 books:

In addition to the 3 FJ battalions the regiment also included 13. (heavy mortar), 14. (anti tank) and 15. (pioneer) companies. Total strength of the regiment on 19 May was 3,457 men.

The regiment was further strengthened during June: the bicycle reconnaissance platoon was expanded to become the 16. company.

In 'the summer of 1944' the regiment was further strengthened with the addition of 17. (Flak with 12 x 2cm and 4 x quad 2cm), 18. (motor transport), 19. (supply and maintenance) and 20. (field replacement) companies. These additions gave the regiment a strength of some 4,500 men.

Since the regiment was heavily engaged from D-Day onwards the raising of additional companies and an increase in strength to 4,500 men seems very odd.

Does anybody have any specific dates for when the companies raised in June and in the 'summer' were raised? Also does anybody have a date for when a strength of 4,500 mean was attained?

Thanks,

Neil
