Hi,

After a short searching on Google, I guess it's 205.
Try this :

No, both Group Leader's vehicles had broken down before reaching VB. Latest wisdom is that Wittmann used 212. I think it's not for sure yet, but the experts are working on it.

Hi Roger,

Ok I get it, I say 205 and you say 212. Well, 208.5 it's my last offer, you take or you let :D
That was just an indication. I guess if Tony asked the number it's because the answer is not easy to find.

Hi Dackel, although there's plenty of pics. of Tiger's in VB, most are from 1st Coy. lost in the afternoon. There is one, burnt unfortunately ie turret number not visible, which has camo pattern and features of 2nd Coy. By process of elimination, 212 is current prime suspect. It should'nt be much longer before truth is known.

Why I asked was because theres a painting out there of Wittmann's Tiger at Viller-Bocage and its number is 205 but I've read otherwhere it was 213.

I have to backup Roger. "205" was Wittmann's Tiger heading to Normandy but evidence seems to agree that it was either KO'd by jabos or simply broke down before V-B. At this point evidence seems to point to "212" as his Tiger at V-B.

Just because the painting shows "205" doesn't mean the painter is especially reliable as an expert on Wittmann. More likely guilty of depending on outdated resources.

Hi,

I've seen several site on the net saying that the Wittman's Tiger number was 205 but just between the beginning of june and the 12th june 1944. After, nothing is sure.
One thing is sure, the french insurer didn't pay the owner of the broken house bumped by the Wittman's Tiger because it wasn't assured, an another tragic car accident :D

No payout because 'Wittmann's' Tiger is not the one in the shop front!
This Tiger #212 (90% certain) is not touching any building where it rests and my friend Yann has an interesting observation about where it is. It may be that the Firefly hits are the ones that knocked it out and not the 'heavy anti-tank gun' as Wittmann says. There were no A/T guns of any size near him so it could not have been A/T.

Maybe this is a stupid question but was a firefly able to knock out a Tiger?

If so, how? It was a formidable Sherman, but still a Sherman..

The Firefly had a 17pdr (76mm) so I guess if it got close enough it could. Depends on where the shot hits.
