Does anyone perhaps know the unit behind Feldpostnummer 20492 D? A friend of mine has found a letter from his grandfather from Mai 1940 and would like to find out which unit he was in.

Hey Martin,
This number just fits under the wire with Vol.2, so I can help you with this one. From Jan '40 thru Aug. '43 it is listed as the
Rgt.Stab Inf.Regt. 401, in the 9th edition (24.8.43-5.4.44) as of 17.12.43 it is listed as Rgt.Stab.Gren Regt. 401. All with the 170.Inf.Div. as for the "D", as sub or Regimental unit? Stab=A, Stab.Kp.=B Inf.Gesch.Kp.=C Pi.Kp.=D etc.
