looking for Info.

Post by bernhard37049 »

Acording to Wast. report my grandfather(opa) went from the Atlantikkuste to the 9.(Radfahr-)Kompanie Infanterie-Regiment 186 part of the 73.Infanterie-Division in april 1942 (05.04.1942 ) from Jan.1942 till juli 1942 this unit was in Mius, Aug 1942 in Kaukasus. and Sept. 1942 till Dez.1942 in Novorossisk. My grandfather was wounded on 16.09.1942 (Sept. 09,1942) wegen Granatsplitterverletzung beider Fusse, Brust, und linker Zeigefinger. He was taken to a Feldlazarett Krasnodar. What I need help with is where is Krasnodar? How far was Krasnodar from Novorossisk (according to dates it is where he was wounded) what type of campaing was there ? was it heavy fighting? Any info about battles would be helpful. Thanks in advance to all members of Feldgrau. Great website. Bernhard37049 grandson of a wehrmacht veteran also any info about the atlantik kuste would be helpful from february 1941 till march 1942..Thanks again Bernhard37049

Krasnodar is in Russia: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Krasnodar
...During the Great Patriotic War (World War II), Krasnodar was occupied by the German Army between August 12, 1942 and February 12, 1943. ...
Novorossisk:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Novorossisk
...Novorossiysk...is a city in southern Russia, the main Russian port on the Black Sea, in Krasnodar Krai...
Distance from Krasnodar Kray, Russia (First-Order Administrative Division, Kransnodarskiy Kray) to Novorossisk Harbor, Russia (Harbor, Kransnodarskiy Kray): 110.0 miles (177.0 kilometers).

Bernhard,

The following thread should be of interest:
viewtopic.php?f=45&t=14828&st=0&sk=t&sd=a

Note that NARA microfilms T315 1065 and 1066 cover the actions of 73. Infanterie Division (Kriegstagebuch 9 - Band 1-3) for the period of interest.

Cheers,

Christian

Bernhard,

The microfilms are available at the National Archives and Records Administration, College Park, MD and cost $65 each. Here is a link to their webpage which explains the orderig process: http://www.archives.gov/research/order/ ... -pubs.html
I have purchased a number of rolls from NARA over the years and they are the best source of primary information in my opinion.
