Just out of curiosity, since every notation I've ever seen was "Flakvierling," is there any way that "Vierlingsflak" would be a proper word for a 4-barrelled flak gun?
I found this form in a manuscript, and I was wondering...
Flakvierling

Yes, you are right. It´s just another word for a AA-gun with four barrels a.k.a quad.
A pic says more than (four-)thousand words

As all soldiers know since thousands of years death is not noble. It´s just very final.

Hello Tom,
An internet search for the word "vierling" yielded the following link:
http://www.bwb.org/02DB022000000001/Cur ... en&lang=DE
...note that the title underneath the pic reads, "Vierlings-Flugabwehrkanone"....... appears the term "Vierlings-Flak" was still in use by the Bundeswehr at the time this pic was taken

Vierlings-MG
Tom,
Vierlings-MG was the designation of the weapon. However, it was commonly called Vierlingsflak as it was used mostly for shooting at airplanes (Flak = Flieger-Abwehr-Kanone).
Greetings,
Rudi S.
