We are fortunate that I was in a benevolent frame of mind this morning. When you put this many of them up all at one time, most of us who have Kannapin won't take the time to look them up. It took about 20 minutes. Next time, try putting them up one or two at a time.
FN 18163 letter dated 9th December 1939: 8./IR 106.
FN 20528/6(cant make it out) letter dated 30th December 1941: IV./Lw.-Sturm-Rgt. 1.
L38804 written on the envelope: 2./le.Res.Flak-Abt. 874.
FN 23671 letter dated 25th May 1940: 2./Pi.Btl. 657.
FN 20624B letter dated 16th September 1942: II./GR 588 (prob. 5.Kp.).
FN 28584B letter dated 16th September 1943: IV./Feld-Rgt.d.Lw. 1 (prob. 13.Kp.).
L55967B beside the senders name: II./Lw.-Jäger-Rgt. 42 (prob. 5.Kp.).
FN 11455 letter dated 20th December 1943: kl.Kw.Kol. 810.
FN 18163 letter dated 5th May 1941: 3./Res.Flak-Abt. 412.

It's the reference book that's used to look up what unit the Feldpostnummer was assigned to.

5.Schwadron,
SS-Kav.Rgt. 16,
8. SS-Kavallerie-Division "Florian Geyer"
In July 1944 it was in the vicinity of Osijek (Esseg)/Croatia "in formation". How did he die? Elements of the Division were being used against Yugoslav partisans at this time, but these were skirmishes and casualties were few.

Here's a web site on the Division along with 5 books about it:JJCanmore wrote:We never received any information on what happened to him. Have recently sent a note off to WAST. Do you have any other suggestions on sources of further information?
Thanks,

Those sources should familiarize you with the Division and what it was doing at the time of your relative's death.
