I saw a picture today in an old illustrated book on WW2. The picture showed a Japanese soldier in German uniform talking to an American sargeant, according to the caption he was captured in France shortly after D-Day. Does anyone know where this guy could have come from? He appeared to very young and was just a private soldier devoid of any decorations.
Thanks
Japanese German

This was discussed exhaustively over on Axis History Forum a year ago or so. The member with the most information on it was Kim Sung. The guy was not a Japanese soldier but rather a Tatar or perhaps Korean volunteer who belonged to one of the Osttruppen-Bataillonen stationed just inland from Utah and Omaha Beaches. Evidentally, IIRC, there has been an Asian movie made about this fellow or about all of the Asian volunteers in the Osttruppen.
