French Gendarmes' Uniforms and Insignia

Somewhat off-topic, but does anyone know where I can find information on the uniforms and insignia of the French Gendarmes from the WW2 period? Our drama group is going to perform `Allo `Allo!, and we need to make up a uniform for the undercover British agent, Crabtree ("Good moaning...").!
