We try to forget about Mr. Sherman and his little descent into pyromania. My wife tells the story of a Northern woman complaining to a realtor that she can't find any antebellum homes here in GA. Un Huh... Suffice to say that lady got a rather rude reply!

Re: too fat to fight
National Guard is working class? No Beverly Hills guys eh? May I suggest that there aren't many "men" in Bev Hills anyway. AS to working class? Does that include doctors, engineers, programmers and policemen? Because that is the Guard. There is a gonzo journalist worth his weight in gold n...

Re: too fat to fight
You might be surprised to learn that most (by a large margin) casualties in Iraq are coming out of a white middle class demographic. This is NOT vietnam where that cliche about rich man's (or white man's) war being a poor (or black) man's fight had some basis in reality. Take a look at the compositi...

Re: Steve Zaloga--Is He a Competent Author?
David I just got Zaloga's book on US armoured divs in ETO. Not perfect - but having pissed money down the tubes over the years on junk like "Hell on Wheels" in my ongoing search for OOB info I'm loving it. (aside - "Hell on Wheels" is frequently listed as a marvelous unit history...

Re: too fat to fight
A soldier condemned for eating too much and drinking too much has the last laugh in the end. The WWII German soldier made a heck of a reputation as a fighting man but I bet if you asked him he'd rather have been well fed and have a mug in his hand than be out conquoring Europe on an empty stomach! I...

If Adolf had done everything you suggest they wouldn't have been the bad guys! Hitler would be remembered as the "great liberator" who freed Europe (and USSR) from despotism.
Nah...nothing ever works out that way.

Great link Igor - thanks. I'm reading Glantz on Kursk now and he certainly provides more info on the Soviet side than I'm used to seeing.

Re: Red Army Failure at Cherkassy
Re Korsun / Cherkassy First - four high grade German infantry divisions? Really? I didn't there were any of those after 1941. There certainly weren't after Stalingrad. German replacement difficulties and reduced those divisions in size and even the new reduced infantry were understrength and NEVER g...

Ouch.. You know how beaurocracies are - particularly govt. ones. They make up their little declarations then hold events where they indulge in an orgy of self congratulation for coming up with yet another brilliant strategem. this time they overlooked that one little thing...the only thing that matt...

Rolf There is little more irritating than an ex-smoker but I became one. How I miss it... But the health implications were simply becoming too obvious and the older one gets the slower one heals - internally as well as externally. I shall build a statue of the guy who invents a safe, or better yet, ...

Re: Death....
Thanks Annelie and David for your kind words. I'm thanking God now - everybody is alive. My son in law stopped breathing while driving the family up from FL. At 60 mph that can be radical but they all walked - my wife was able to grab the wheel. A trucker pulled over and got him to a hospital and th...
