Exactly. Sending three more fully equipped panzerdivisions to Africa in early 1941 could have tipped the scale in Africa in favour of the Germans regardless of these units being Waffen-SS or Heer. If send to Tunesia in early 1943 (instead of Charkow), like the rumours suggested (see the above post b...

These SS Panzer Divisions (like Das Reich, Totenkopf, and Leibstandarte) where hardcore fighting elites from the Eastern front. LSSAH trained for deployment in Africa during refitting in Metz (late 1940 - early 1941), so a) Those units were no Panzerdivisions at that time. LSSAH for example was an ...

I know what you mean, but I don't think along such lines and unless 2SSPDR is a German (and I doubt he is) it would be quite odd if he does.

But since you're American and I'm Dutch, what's our side in this matter?

I think Schwedi's remark about the misbehaviour of DR members toward the Polish and German population deals with the topic of this thread. Russian misbehaviour in 1945 does not.

2SSPDR: funny how you repeat the usual mantras about terrible Russian rapists but completely ignore the following... [..] my grandfather was in the Waffen-SS in the late 1944 and beginning 1945 in Eastern Front. And he saw things Waffen-SS members did to the polish and even sometimes german civil po...

Reb, from mid-1942 to mid-1944 the Abteilung had 84 Schwimmers devided over the 1. and 2. Kompanie. But also at that time the Abteilung had a Kompanie with le.SPW and a Kompanie with s.PSW. During refitting in Belgium, prior to the Normandy Campaign, the LSSAH - including the SS AA 1 - received a hu...

Sorry for going !!!Off-topic!!! 8) I was surprised to learn that LAH had no self propelled artillery for the Ardennes and the recn bn was mostly schwimwagen . \ ...in the Ardennes the SS AA 1 (Knittel) was mostly Schwimmwagen??? They also had 36 Sd.Kfz. 250's, 16 schwere Panzerspähwagen and and vari...

That's what Peiper also told my friend, but I wonder how and when he knew or found out. He later wrote he didn't remember much of it. I assume it was reported to him later as a sidenote. ...I didn't know either untill a very interesting phonecall last night. I now know that Peiper made two statemen...

Reb, nevermind. Thomas V's opinion in this hardly matters. Many LAH members, including several who were present at the scene and tried at Dachau during the Malmédy trials, are still alive today and even today testify that at the crossroads POW's were killed by members of Kampfgruppe Peiper. They jus...

Hmmm, must be some malfunction in Uncle Joe's brain here. Let's pretend he didn't post that 8) Without political ulterior motives, I am only looking for: A source that shows that Gustav Knittel indeed told Peiper that "They've killed a good few Amis at the crossroads" A source that tells m...

Thanks Reb,

Perhaps somebody on this forum can look it up in Charles Whitings book? Meanwhile I will go through Knittel's statements one more time. Perhaps I overlooked it.

McDonald however specifically quoted Knittel as saying to Peiper "They've killed a good few Amis at the crossroads" ...Does it say where McDonald found this quote? I have all statements made by Knittel both during the interrogations and during his imprisonment but I cannot find this quote...

Charles McDonald has good info (good as any I've seen) on this in A Time For Trumpets and mentions Peiper being informed of it after the fact by Gustav Knittel (recon bn). ...yes, I have always wondered if this is true and - when true: a) who told Knittel? He was never even near the crossroads. b) ...
