Re: The Forgotten Soldier Movie Update
For the love of Mike - that's absolutely BS. The backers pulled out because they went broke durng last year's market crash and no longer have the money to front for the project. It has nothing, I repeat nothing, to do with the subject material. This comes directly from the project screenwriter, Herr...

Re: Fire Brigades, The Panzer Division, 1943-1945
I have just finished reading Kamen Navenkin's book and I must say that I am quite impressed - this is truly the "must have" for anyone considering serious research about the employment of German panzer divisions during the latter half of WW2 (summer '43 until the end), when they were used ...

Re: Hurtgen Forest
Forgot to mention - Kurt Kaeres is the pen name of Klaus Schulz. If you can read German, his book "Das Verstummte Hurra" is excellent.

The Forgotten Soldier Movie Update
Well, bad news - on account of the financial downturn (which apparently is even worse in Europe than it is in the USA), The Forgotten Soldier film project by Paul Verhoeven has been cancelled. Too many backers pulled out, leaving insufficient finances to continue the project. Not sure if another dir...

Re: Battle of Kovel
RZM Publishing has managed to locate the owner of the Wiking Division's photo archive & will be publishing a book about the Battle of Kovel that took place from March - April 1944, as early as next spring. It will be along the lines of Platz der Leibstandarte , with the focus on the photos and t...

Re: HG Reprint now out
Tom,
don't know - try again in a month. Or send RZM an email and ask to be put on the waiting list. The ways of RZM are inscrutible and wise.

Re: HG Reprint now out
Yes - RZM is going to reprint 3,000 copies this fall - the majority of those are going to the military book club, which will sell it to its members as well.

Re: Feldgrau Author: Doug Nash
Remy's concept (he's the editor/owner of RZM Publishing) is to take some of the hundreds of photos from the Korsun/Cherkassy battles that we didn't use (due to lack of space) and just make an accompanying photographic volume using those. What Remy did was to visit the Bundesarchiv-Fotoarchiv in Kobl...

Re: Feldgrau Author: Doug Nash
Thanks John - it was a pleasant surprise. The Texas veteran, Mr. Ed Malouf, had served in Company B, 311th Infantry and fought in the Huertgen from Dec. 13 1844 until the end of February when the 78th Division was finally able to fight its way out of that mess. Most of the men in his company that he...

Re: Feldgrau Author: Doug Nash
Nicolai, RZM is planning on doing a 3rd Edition of Hell's Gate with an accompanying photographic volume, which will be all new. It has been in the planning stages for a couple of years, so it will probably be at least 2 more years before this comes out. Apologies for the delay! Also, glad you liked ...

Re: KTB OKW Band 1
Richard, Yes, you can actually get Greiner's entire narrative from the US Army's MHI. At least most of the OKW KTB was saved so it makes a coherent narrative. But the holy grail of all is the missing OKH KTB - only fragments of that survive, unfortunately. Putting that back together somehow would be...

Re: KTB OKW Band 1
Richard, Yeah, really - I got mine cheap from a store in Germany but the postage ate me alive. The REAL deal is to somehow find a copy of Keilig's Das Deutsche Heer with all the inserts - I got one two years ago and the thing cost me an arm and a leg, but worth every penny for the tremendous wealth ...

Re: "The Forgotten Soldier" by Guy Sajer
Uncle Joe, You are correct about it being a memoir - as a source for historical research, it is a very weak reed indeed. As a simple private soldier, Sajer had no idea where he was for most of the time, where he was going, and only a vague sense of where he had been. But then, he said he never set o...
