Reading "Lost Victories" now. Sure makes me hope (and wish) he had nothing to do with the holocaust but it is difficult to believe that many officers then had no idea this was going on. His description of the death of his son and his comrades is emotional and down to earth. A very good rea...

Helmet Chinstraps

I have seen many pictures of Wehrmacht soldiers in battle with their helmet chinstraps buckled. My understanding of this is that if there is an explosion near a soldier, such as a grenade or mortar, the soldier's body may escape injury, but the helmet could be blown off his head and if the chinstrap...

von Manstein's "Lost Victories"

I know it must be here somewhere in the forum, but I can't find it. Any reviews about von Manstein's book "Lost Victories"? I read a few pages of it on Google books and it looks interesting.

Thanks!

A very nice story Helmut. Thanks for posting this. My dad was born in 1922, here in the USA. He did not serve in WWII because of a severe heart murmur, which eventually cost him his life at age 50. So true, we need to talk to as many of the vets as possible and hear their stories on a first-hand bas...

Count Von Stauffenberg

"The Very Rich Hours of Count Von Stauffenberg" by Paul West.

Have any of you read this book? Is it fiction or true?

If it is a true story, how is the book?

Thanks!

Black Edelweiss

I just finished Black Edelweiss by Johann Voss. I enjoyed this book very much. It is well written and easy to understand. I recommend it to anyone reading about WWII, especially those interested in the German plight.

Missing Since Stalingrad...true story?

I found an interesting book, Missing Since Stalingrad, on a website and am wondering if this is a true story or a novel. Anyone have any knowledge of this? Does not tell the soldier's name.

From what I understand if they would have let the footsoldiers make some decisions things might have been different on all fronts. The soldiers were brave men, whether German, Russian, American, English or from other countries. Many sacrifices were made and so many unappreciated. On the other hand, ...
