BoB Parachuters song

Post by LuZifer Morningstar »

In Band of Brothers the troopers sing some Paratrooper-song, which in the german version is going like this: Blutig, Blutig, Hallelujah, und er sprang nie wieder ab.

I rather liked it, but I'm unable to find it anywhere to buy, d/l it. Is there any german song with this lyrics they just used? Or is there a actual paratrooper song of the allies and what would be the name of it? I guess it could go like this: "Bloody, bloody, hallelujah, and he never jumped again", as this translation would fit to the sheme of rhyming and the melody?

I know this is a tough question and I wish I could give you some more information, but I only saw the series once at a friends place, so I can't get the english version of the film to give you more details.

Hope you can help. Well, thanks for trying in advance.

You're reffering to the song they were singing while in the convoy, correct?

It is called "Blood On The Risers". It's sung to the tune of the Battle Hymn of the Republic.

Gory, Gory, what a helluva way to die.
Gory, Gory, what a helluva way to die.
Gory, Gory, what a helluva way to die.
And he ain't gonna jump no more!

He was just a rookie trooper,
And he surely shook with fright.
He checked all his equipment,
And made sure his pack was tight.
He had to sit and listen
To those awful engines roar,
And he ain't gonna jump no more!

Gory, Gory, what a helluva way to die.
Gory, Gory, what a helluva way to die.
Gory, Gory, what a helluva way to die.
And he ain't gonna jump no more!

"Is everybody happy?",
Cried the Sergeant looking up.
Our hero feebly answered "Yes",
And then they stood him up;
He jumped into the icy blasts,
His static line unhooked,
And he ain't gonna jump no more!

Gory, Gory, what a helluva way to die.
Gory, Gory, what a helluva way to die.
Gory, Gory, what a helluva way to die.
And he ain't gonna jump no more!

He counted long, he counted loud,
He waited for the shock.
He felt the wind, he felt the cold,
He felt the awful drop.
The silk from his reserve spilled out
And wrapped around his legs,
And he ain't gonna jump no more!

Gory, Gory, what a helluva way to die.
Gory, Gory, what a helluva way to die.
Gory, Gory, what a helluva way to die.
And he ain't gonna jump no more!

The risers swung around his neck,
Connectors cracked his dome.
Suspension lines were tied in knots
Around his skinny bones:
The canopy became his shroud
As he hurtled to the ground,
And he ain't gonna jump no more!

Gory, Gory, what a helluva way to die.
Gory, Gory, what a helluva way to die.
Gory, Gory, what a helluva way to die.
And he ain't gonna jump no more!

The days he'd lived and loved and laughed
Kept running through his mind.
He thought about the girl back home,
The one he'd left behind.
He thought about the medicos,
and wondered what they'd find,
And he ain't gonna jump no more!

Gory, Gory, what a helluva way to die.
Gory, Gory, what a helluva way to die.
Gory, Gory, what a helluva way to die.
And he ain't gonna jump no more!

The ambulance was on the spot,
The Jeeps were running wild.
The medics jumped and screamed with glee,
Rolled up their sleeves, and smiled.
For it had been a week or more
Since last a 'chute had failed,
And he ain't gonna jump no more!

Gory, Gory, what a helluva way to die.
Gory, Gory, what a helluva way to die.
Gory, Gory, what a helluva way to die.
And he ain't gonna jump no more!

He hit the ground,
The sound was "SPLAT",
His blood went spurting high.
His comrades then were heard to say:
"A helluva way to die."
He lay there rolling 'round
In the welter of his gore,
And he ain't gonna jump no more!

Gory, Gory, what a helluva way to die.
Gory, Gory, what a helluva way to die.
Gory, Gory, what a helluva way to die.
And he ain't gonna jump no more!

There was blood upon the risers,
There were brains upon the 'chute.
Intestines were a'dangling
From his paratrooper suit.
He was a mess. They tipped him up,
And poured him from his boots,
And he ain't gonna jump no more!

Gory, Gory, what a helluva way to die.
Gory, Gory, what a helluva way to die.
Gory, Gory, what a helluva way to die.
And he ain't gonna jump no more!

Our paratrooper's song is done.
His jumping days are through.
Propeller blast has died away.
He's qualified for true.
He slipped from a 'chute of white,
Into one of red, white, and blue.
And he ain't gonna jump no more!

Gory, Gory, what a helluva way to die.
Gory, Gory, what a helluva way to die.
Gory, Gory, what a helluva way to die.
And he ain't gonna jump no more!

They say he went to Heaven,
Upon arriving there, I'm told,
He was given a pair of silver wings,
And a parachute of gold.
He may be happy there,
But me, I'll stay down here,
'Cause he ain't gonna jump ever more!

Gory, Gory, what a helluva way to die.
Gory, Gory, what a helluva way to die.
Gory, Gory, what a helluva way to die.
And he ain't gonna jump no more!

As to CDs and such like, I dunno. There's prolly a few out there. Perhaps the BoB soundtrack has it on it? I don't have it (the soundtrack), so I couldn't tell you.

Goto Yahoo or such like and search "Blood On The Risers" and you should nail her down somewhere.

we used to sing one while on the march when i was a boy in the cadets which is very similar to teh above song.

"There was a paratrooper of the 49th brigade" sung to the same tune and i recall only a these few verses;

There was a paratrooper of the 49th brigade
repeat
repeat
and he aint gonna jump no more, and he aint gonna jump no mo-or- ore !

He jumped from 30 thousand feet without a parachute
repeat
repeat
and he aint gonna jump no more, and he aint gonna jump no mo-or- ore !

His wife packed sandwiches instead of his parachute
repeat
repeat
and he aint gonna jump no more, and he aint gonna jump no mo-or- ore !

They scraped him of the tarmac like a lump of strawb'ry jam
repeat
repeat
and he aint gonna jump no more, and he aint gonna jump no mo-or- ore !

They wrapped him up in 4 by 2 and sent him home to mum
repeat
repeat
and he aint gonna jump no more, and he aint gonna jump no mo-or- ore !

She put him on the mantle piece for evr'y one to see
repeat
repeat
'cos he aint gonna jump no more, and he aint gonna jump no mo-or- ore !

He aint gonna jump no more.

The song is sadly not on the BoB music cd - trust me.. :/

the song used in the bob movie was great, "sadly" this is the only version i've found on the net that sounds either similary or atleast decent.

But it dosnt beat the song they sang in the movie.

I d/l-ed it, too. It's the best (if not the only) version I could get out of the whole net. And I so agree with Kloster that it's not compareable to the "real" thing. It sounds a bit to much like a boys choir in church. But the lyrics are still fine :D

So, thanks for your efforts. This forum and it's members are great. And it's good to have come here, as it's one of the few places in the net, where the Wehrmacht can be looked upon at as a whole without having Nazis around who think war is a funny thing and see themselves as SS-soldiers who are just so great, while in the real world they would have probably been the first to be put to jail for misbehaviour.

YOU GUYS ROCK!

The song in BoB when they were running Currahee was a modification of the song that the 501st PIR sung. Heres the 501st song.

We're Col. Johnsons troopers,
We're fighters of the night,
We're dirty sonsabitches,
We'd rather F!@# that fight!
Hidee-hidee christ almighty
who the hell are we?
Rim-ram, god damn, parachute infantry

Its real nifty to sing while your running. lol
