"Revisionist" History.

General WWII era German military discussion that doesn't fit someplace more specific.

"Revisionist" History.

Post by behblc »

Hvae seen a number of "websites" from links posted on this forum which lead either directly to or indirectly to what might be described as
as sources of "Revisionist" History.
Whilst I do not deny freedom of speech ) please don't make this a topic /direction in which to take this thread) , do the writers of this "history" have a valid contribution to make ?
Have any of their points been proved at all ?
I have my own views , what do other forums users think ?
" Life , to be sure is nothing much to loose ; But young men think it is , and we were young . "
A.E. Housman.

Well, if you know roughly what actually happened, you could consider it studying the disinformation, so you are aware of what pitfalls are out there!

Yeah,

That link does provide some insights into the way the minds of some of the clowns who frequent this site work.

Well, I think it's all a matter of what do you mean with the word "revisionist".
If the meaning is, according the popular journalist way: "No Jew was ever murdered by Nazis" it's clear that's rubbish.
But if the meaning of the same term is, instead: "You cannot say, debate or study anything else than the official version you find in the newspapers or on TV and movies" than it's, according my opinion, an incest among so called historians, and I don't like it.

Enrico said it best.

Me, I utterly despise political correctness. I'm sure that, in the eyes of the politically correct, this website ought to be shut down. They'd automatically assume it's pro-Nazi, despite all the disclaimers.

Paul

I personally do not come to a conclusion on any historical opinion until I have read it over properly and come to a thorough understanding of it. Most critics of theories that challenge the established views probably haven't even laid eyes upon the work, let alone read it. "Revisionism" seems to have become the word of fear and fright nowadays!

You're welcome, Enrico.

And, Edelweiss, I hope there'll always be people who'll challenge the established view. The "heretics", not the yes-men, are the ones responsible for progress.

As John Adams said, "Let us dare to read, think, speak, and write."

You are of course, correct. History is about analysis and conclusions of the past that present a range of perspectives to the audience. Without a revisionist opinion that challenges established theories, it would almost seem that half of the piece is missing, and then well...what makes it any different from the bleak world of Mr. Orwell's Ministry of Truth? As it says in that most-renowned novel...

"...who controls the present, controls the past. Who controls the past, controls the future..."

Edelweiss

Look that you can translate that Latin sentence also in the following way:
"When you need many options (Pluralitas) it's not without a necessity".

Anyway, in varietate delictia vitae

and, above all, Veritatem dies aperit (Seneca)
