Artillery fire missions

I've been looking all over the place online, and can't seem to find an answer to this question.
What was the smallest typical allotment of guns to an artillery call by the german army in France 1944? Did they generally use a battery? Did they split a battery up into smaller units? Did they usually go larger than a battery? And just the average response to a support call (nothing pre-planned or anything) is what I'm looking for. Thanks!
