Re: Schleswig-Holstein
Hello to all ; a little complement...............................
The 28 cm SK L/40 in the "Schleswig-Holstein"
This naval gun was the last weapon system in service aboard the German pre-dreadnought of the ancient Deutschland-Class (Schleswig-Holstein and Schlesien) battleships. It was the first weapon system to use a horizontal sliding-wedge breech instead of the interrupted screw (much more common in the big guns of this size). Therefore it needed to carry all the propellant charge in a brass case, which in turn helped to seal the breech.
The gun was mounted on a twin turret Drh.L. C/01 (fore and aft) with an elevation of 30º and a depression of 4º and a traverse movement of 150º to each band. The ammunition capacity was 85 rounds per gun and its fire rate was 2 shots per minute.

Hello to all ; something more..................
The Schleswig-Holstein - Danzig/Gdansk 1939.
The pretext for the visit, at the invitation of the Senate of the Free City, was honoring the memory of 15 sailors from the cruiser "Magdeburg" (blown up by his own crew after stepping on rocks in the Gulf of Finland), buried in Danzig/Gdansk in August 1914. The ship docked in the New Port, opposite the Westerplatte.
