Hi folks.
Can anybody recommend a comprehensive pictorial guide book depicting wehrmacht unit insignia? there are available guides to German WWII military symbols and abbreviations but it appears there exists a void in published material in English for identifying unit tactical insignia on wehrmacht vehicles. Many thanks.

As far as books go I would recommend these two;

Wehrmacht Camouflage and Markings 1939-1945 by W J K Davies, Almark, 1972

Handbook of WWII German Military Symbols and Abbreviations by Terrence Booth, Helion, 2001.

Thanks for the links Alan, Davies guide book is only 56-pages hardly comprehensive unfortunately Booth's book while detailed does not contain unit insignia.

You specified "tactical insignia" on the vehicles so I gave you the tactical symbols, you didn't ask for unit insignia which had nothing to do with tactical signs. You'll find hundreds of unit insignia listed and illustrated in the first site that I gave you the link for, specifically here, just click on Truppenkennzeichen.

About units insignias, you've got Peter Schmitz und Klaus-Jurgen Thies' books:
Die Truppenkennzeichen der Verbaende und Einheiten Band 1a b c and d.

But hard to find.

About tactical insignias, Georg Tessin band 15 gives a detailed view and i think it's my bible about these questions.

The Handbook of WWII German Military Symbols and Abbreviations by Terrence Booth, Helion, 2001 is a good one for an introduction to the question.
