USN destroyers converted to seaplane tenders

Post by phylo_roadking »

I've come across a few hints that in 1942 a couple (or more???) of US destroyers were converted for use as temporary seaplane/flyingboat tenders for operations where there were no refuelling facilities.

Does anyone have any details on how many and which???

All, I got sent in the direction of this - http://www.navsource.org/archives/09/56/56idx.htm It turns out the vessel I was looking for was specifically the U.S.S. Clemson :D
