I wonder how many people

Post by Richard Hargreaves »

are spending a Saturday night trying to transcribe a scratchy photocopy of Völkischer Beobachter and its coverage of the Turn and Sportsfest in Breslau in July 1938.

I may be wrong, but I'm guessing the answer probably won't be in double figures... :D

The number doing that whilst watching Kolberg is probably even less...

Ah, Phylo, but without this dedication I wouldn't be able to weave my narratives and those little vignettes. Nil satis nisi optimum.

Hmmm...no ,not the Völkischer Beobachter but does reading "Der Pudelmopsdackelpinscher" on a saturdaynight qualify me for this category of 'strangeness'?
Written by Ernst Hiemer and published by Stürmerverlag it is a childrens book with short stories and fables teaching children "all they need to know about jews". Published in 1940 it is printed in the same font as the VB though more easily readable  .
Next weeks special-sideline-readingproject "Der Giftpilz", same writer, same publisher.

Luckily, Tom, there are no normal people here. :D :D

Anyway, today I've been working through the Oberschlesische Zeitung from 1944-1945. Mercifully, it's not in Fraktur. Still a scratchy photocopy though. :(

Never, never, never, never, never, never

try to translate anything by Artur Greiser. The most hideous, convoluted, ideological, ethereal, Nazi claptrap I've had the misfortune to wade through. Vague concepts, horrible sentence structure, lots of blood and soil bullshit.

He went to the gallows quite rightly for his crimes against humanity. He should have gone too for crimes against the German tongue...

Thank you. I think :D And the funny thing is I think re-enactors and ship-/tank-spotters are weird and obsessive. :D
