Background info of unit-emblems

Post by Christoph Awender »

Hello!

As the emblem-section is one of the most viewed sections on my site I would like to ask if there is a interest in background info about the emblems.
For example if you click the emblem in one of my categories you come to a page with original fotos of the emblem, why it was choosen etc....
Is there a "market" for such informations?

Comments welcome,
Christoph

I concur wholeheartedly! I would love to know more about the emblems. Every now and then you read how a symbol originated with a unit but not often enough.

Perhaps the information is already out there, but I have always wondered about the symbol system used on the Panzer-Divisions. Most follow the pattern but there are those that seem to jump the boundaries.

I look forward to reading more about the reasons or lack thereof for these symbols.

Hi Christoph,

I think it is a great idea.

I remember when we were talking about the 7. ID emblem way back when you first had it in gold. It didn't even dawn on me that the 7. ID blue and white diamonds were a piece of the Bavarian flag. Thanks to you, I do now. So, do I think there is a interest in background info about the emblems? Hell yah! :D

BTW .. for anyone interested, there is a good site for flags at http://www.crwflags.com/fotw/flags/

I concur with the rest of the guys posting here. Would be nice for all once they have chosen an Avatar to know a little as to what the Avatar represents from your fine site.

Good compilation of emblems Christoph and if I run across anything Luftwaffe I will send it your way or at least a URL or some type of sample.....

By all means, please do so!! :D Each of those symbols was designed for a reason. Knowledge of the symbols helps sometimes to understand the history of the unit. Does this mean that you'll have to form a College of Heraldry within your site?

Thanks for all the feedback... not just here on the forum!

So this (emblem informations) will be one of my next bigger projects after major additions about field-surgery and medical treatment of wounded at the front, Feldpostnumbers, transfer all KStN from the microfichés to the site and updates to the uniform section.

thanks again,
Christoph
