On Tuesday, November 7, 1944 the British Columbia Regiment engaged 2 ships (possibly more) in the Zijpe Harbour in the Netherlands. The German ship "C24" was sunk by a tank of the BC Regiment.
In September of this year members of the BC Regiment Association have an 18 day tour of Europe planned. One of the stops will be at Zijpe Harbour to place a plaque to commemorate this battle. We have been able to obtain limited information on the ship identified as C24. It was built in 1938 by Flensburg and we do not know much more. We are able to identify the ship as the ship's bell is in the Officers' Mess of the BC Regiment.
Any information that can be provided on the ship, her crew, what happened to the ship after war when it was raised, information on other ships in this battle, etc would be greatly appreciated. The objective is to have the information for those on the tour as well as place it in the Regimental Museum.
I thank you in advance for your assistance.
