Pithy but tricky No.2

Post by Richard Hargreaves »

None of us in the coming forty-eight hours is ...

in any doubt?

Not sure if it's idiomatic or not, but none of my dictionaries holds the answer :(

Could it simply:

In the coming 48 hours not one of us got out of it,

It standing for mess, business or any other suitable description?

Cheers Howard, that makes sense: none of us would escape it in the coming forty-eight hours.

Here's the whole diary extract

Hi Richard,

Sachen (coll.)=clothes

None of us could change clothes during the following 48 hours.

'Sachen' is an abbrev. of 'Anziehsachen' (also coll.) ~ 'things to put on'

Hi Richard,

This is one of those where the idea has to be translated rather than the words. The above two translations are certainly not incorrect. However what the writer in my opinion is saying is: "During the next 48 hours we didn't have time to scratch ourselves." :D

Aha! During the next 48 hours not of us had chance to get out of our things!

Thanks to all! Damned idiomatic German :D
