Really?!? you couldn't knock out a PZI with a rifle? funny that. Rifle rounds could easily penetrate the best armor the Japanese had!, the round would go in and bounce around for a bit until it hit someone!
It's also neat to note that the Germans exported PZI's to China, and these were used against the Japanese

Ok thank you thats a good answer, but lets say they ran into a bunch of enemy tanks, did they try to go around or did they flee?sid guttridge wrote:The secret of the Blitzkrieg was not the quality of the tanks used but the quality of the tactics adopted and the men who applied them. Pz.Is were not capable of forcing a breakthrough on their own, but they were as capable as any other tank of exploiting a breakthrough, chewing up field telephone lines that were the main form of signals equipment available to the Poles and French, shooting up transport columns or over running HQs and generally causing the confusion and paralysis in the enemy's rear that were the hallmark of the Blitzkrieg. They were definitely not a main battle tank designed to fight opposing armour like the early PzKpfw.III or a breakthrough tank like the early PzKpfw.IV, but they did have their uses against an enemy materially and psychologically unprepared for Blitzkrieg tactics.

I doubt they had this problem much in Poland. I suppose they ran into some enemy armour in France, but I imagine they were nimbler than French infantry tanks and could avoi them. Besides, they had anti-tank guns, PzKpfw.IIIs and IVs to fall back on. This is pure specuation. I would be interested to hear details of some actual clashes involving PzKpfw.Is.

So, the question is, did French cavalry tanks, which I think were largely concentrated in the three DLM divisions, ever run into a swarm of PzKpfw. Is? And, if so, how did they handle them? In the desert the technique was to draw superior armour onto the anti-tank gun line. Was this technique already used in France in 1940?

Hello to all ; bumping up this old thread........................
Panzerkampfwagen (MG) I.
In the words of Heinz Guderian : in order to definitely organize our armored divisions we had foreseen two types of tanks, a light one with a piercing gun (37 mm), one machine gun in the turret and one on the bow and one medium with a gun of heavy gauge (75 mm), a machine gun in the turret and another forward in the hull. The lightweight tank would outfit the three light companies and the medium for the medium company assigned to each battalion. But it would take several years until the new units were delivered to the troops. Meanwhile we should have a training material, so it was presented to us a vehicle Carden-Lloyd. It was true that it could only be armed with two machine guns on a rotating turret, but considering that limitation could be ready as early as 1934. Therefore this vehicle was ordered with the designation of Panzerkampfwagen I.
Until the outbreak of hostilities there were basically two models the Pz Kw I Ausf A (Krupp M305 engine of 57 hp, 4 road wheels and 3 return rollers) and the Pz Kw I Ausf B (motor Maybach NL 38 TR of 100 hp, 5 road wheels and 4 return rollers).
Below two pictures of Pz Kw I Ausf. A (4 road wheels).
