It isn't. From the USSR perspective it was the liberation of the Soviet Latvia from the German-Nazi occupiers.

I think the "soviet" latvians will see this in another way

But interesting, how close modern russian websites are still to the ductus of the stalinistic era

On the other hand, one can remember that many western sources were also calling some combats of 1944-45 on the Ost Front as "defense of Poland" or "defense of Europe". I think that some people in Poland did not appreciate such terminology, especially taking into account over 3 millions of Poles murdered by Nazi.

Nurnberg Tribunal provided in 1946 the legal and criminal assessment of the "Europe Defenders" behavior.

Gentlemen, this is not a place to discuss anyone's behavior. This thread is about updates to the RKKA site.

Every battle has two sides to it but it is hard to discuss one if the other side refuses to acknowledge it. I am talking about MORES, LATVIA.
While Army Group North was retreating South, it put the 19th Latvian Legion at Mores to stop the Russians from cutting off their retreat. The Legion was under the impression that the Germans were going to help defend Riga but were surprised when they marched right through to Kurzeme. To the Latvian there was no battle for Riga or Jurmala for the Germans ran with their tail between their legs. With only 198 deaths the Latvian Legion killed over 5000 Russians at Mores and only retreated when the German command ordered them to or be surrounded.
The Russian cemetery has 5000 graves but a visit to the museum and the owner will tell of bodies the Russians buried without markers so that they would not have to report the disaster to Moscow.
Is it anywhere in your books the Soviet side of this battle?. I have seen it and have many questions of the motives of the Russians.

No front wide maps showing the overall situation and placement of formations .... .

For instance : the Maps 1944 (North-Western Direction) do not show battles, but only the uncontested advances and "liberations" between. The meaningless nonbattle "Liberation of Madona" on August 12th skips straight to the meaningless nonbattle "Liberation of Ogre" on October 8th (a distance much less than 100 km), somehow missing the months of fighting in between that saved much of Army Group North from being cut off in Estonia ....

To be honest, somebody wasted considerable time scanning and posting what is basically crap.
