1941 Fleet Air Arm bombing raid on Naples

Post by phylo_roadking »

All, I've just come across a reference in a "Time" archived news story about the Italian invasion of Greece in 1941 and events surrounding it, and in it, without much detail at all, it mentions a British air raid on Naples in the first week of the war "by Blackburns" so I assume carrier-based Skuas? The Italians had no blackout regime so they were guided straight into the city, apparently....

Does anyone have nay more detail on this?

Naples was the most bombed Italian city in WW2. It was struck for the first time on November 1, 1940, by RAF and Fleet Air Arm Bristol-Blenheim twin-engine light bombers flying out of Malta. It was part of a coordinated British attack against Naples and Brindisi.

Ta for that - scuppers the "rumoured" raid during the Italian-Greek War MUCH earlier in the year then!
