Jaeger Insignia

Post by Slobo »

Did jaeger (and ski jaeger) wear the same hat and uniform insignia as Gebirgsjaeger? For example, did they wear the bergmutze pre-1943 or feldmutze? Edelweiss? lt. green waffenfarbe?

Thanks.

Grüß Di' Jäger Slobo und Bergkameraden,

Yes, the Jägers and Skijägers did wear the same uniforms and Bergmütze as the Gebirgsjäger, but instead of the Edelweiss, they used the Oakleaf sleeve and cap badges for Jägers and the Oakleaf with Ski cap badge for Skijägers. Though you will find photos of Jägers and Skijägers wearing Edelweiss insignia...these were former Gebirgsjägers. When the 1. Skijäger Battalion transitioned into the 1.Skijäger Division, they went with the Fieldgray Assault Gunners Wrap tunic instead of the normal field tunic. They also wore Fallschirmjäger helmets in addition to their Bergmützen. The green Waffenfarbe was used by the rifle regiments within the Jäger/Skijäger/Gebirgsjäger Divisions. Other Waffenfarbe would be used within these Divisions also...Gebirgsartillerie would use red, Gebirgspionier used black, etc.

Muli vor!
Mit einem Kameradschaftlichen Horrido!
