Signed Knights Cross Photos

I have collected a small number of photos and letters signed by knights cross winners. I am sure of their authenticity. However, there are many signed photos of knights cross winners on Ebay that are often signed using marker pens. I am unsure as to whether these are genuine or not.

Any advice on this matter would be appreciated.

My advice is to be wary of this kind of thing. eBay doesn’t give you (or a specialist) the opportunity to sample and verify the kind of photographs you are talking about.

As for the marker pen, it is possible that the actual RK holder signed an old photo a few years down the line. OR someone is looking to make a quick buck out of the true enthusiast.

I would like to see some of your photographs if you’re willing to share and I think I speak for the forum as a whole saying this.

I have been collecting signed Knightscross photos since the early eighties, most of them signed post-war. I have about 300 photos and about 1/5th of them are signed in marker pen. These are direct from the vets themselves. Some sign old wartime photos but most sign modern day reprints. I have even sent out original wartime Hoffman cards for signature with success. I have also attended vet reunions in Germany and have had several vets sign items for me in marker pen. If you are going to buy these photos on Ebay just be sure to follow the "Buyer Beware" philosophy. Not all of the venders on Ebay are untrustworthy, but there are enough of them to make it risky, especially as I see prices starting to climb for even the post-war signed photos. Good luck in your photo collecting endeavors, I hope that you get as much enjoyment out of your collection as I do mine.
