Read it. Well, before I ask my question, were any standard infantry units involved in the battle of narvik?

In the battle of Narvik was involved only 149. Gebirgsjaeger-Regiment. But I'll try to check this again in other sources. Inf acording to: "Narwik" by Michał Olszański, Warszawa 2005

Hrmm... (coughs discretly) It was the Geb.Jg.Rgt. 139 that was involved in the fight for Narvik.

In "Narwik" by Michał Olszański, Warszawa 2005 it is written, that in battle of Narvik was involved Geb.Jg.Rgt. 149 (149 pułk strzelców górskich) under the command of gen. E.Dietl. It seems, that author was wrong.
Best wishes

Would that be part of the 3. Gebirgsdivision?

Hello 17SS!

Yes, the 139 GJR was part of the 3. Gebirgs-Division. It was later reinforced with a Artillery Batallion and a Pionier company and was called the 139. Gebirgs-Brigade "Generaloberst Dietl".

2./GJR 138, 3./GJR 138 and a couple of platoons from 6./GJR 138 were airlifted by seaplane from Trøndheim to Narvik to relieve Dietl's encircled GJR 139. GJR 139 was also reinforced by members of 2./GJR 137 who jumped near Narvik after undergoing a shortened parachute jump course at Wittstock. I'm not on my own computer so I can't post photos of them at the moment.

He and his friends must have been members of the elite Taureg Brigade which saw action at Narvik.
