Unidentified medal/medallion

I have an object which looks as if it may be a medal. It looks as if whoever made it was using sand or some other material to cast the badge before casting it in metal. It's black in colour and as I said, made of sand/stone??. Within the medal on the front is an image of what looks like a volcano shaped mountain with clouds above it and the date “1941” below. On the back is a swastika next to an object I can only describe as the barrel of a cannon (though I don't believe that this is what it is), and next to that is the sun. Below this image are the letters ARB . The only other information I know about it, is that it was brought back from North Africa by my late grandfather, although I'm not sure that this is where it was originally from.
