It's not so easy to explain, but I will try:
Every division hed two "Sanitätskompanien" ad the beginning of the war. Every companie was able to "built up" a "Hauptverbandsplatz" (HVPl) with one or two groups who could make operations and a part for the care of injured soldiers.

Also every division had (till about 1942) a Feldlazarett for 200 hurt soldiers. A Feldlazarett was also able to install a isolating station, to make water clean (for drinking) and install an "Entlausungsstation" (what is the English word for that?).
Later this Lazaretts did not exist for divisions anymore, but for an army, organized as a "Heerestruppe". So after 1942 it is easier to see the difference.

Now I found a little mor information:
A HVPl was about 6-10 km behind the front. They was able to look for 25 heavy injured, 60 middle heavy injured or 120 little injured soldiers. If it was able a HVPl was in a building but if not, the division was able to stay in tents. No soldier should stay for longer time at HVPl to be able to look for a lot of injureds if it was necessary.
A Feldlazarett was about 20 – 25 km behind the front. It should have been so far away from the front, that the artillerie was not able to reach the lazarett. This lazaretts had special docs, the possibilty for x-ray, a dentist and a good pharmacy.

Hello to all :D; more.................

Hauptverbandplatz oder Feldlazarett? (Main Aid Station or field hospital?)

I think these pictures shows a main aid station (Hauptverbandplatz). But I'm struck by the presence of farm animals (pigs) in one of the photos..................

Basically, a delousing station. Lice were a common problem, on all sides!
