Lager Oerbke/Fallingbostel

Post by Stransky »

Can anyone help with the pre-1945 history of Lager Oerbke/Fallingbostel? I would appreciate if someone has imagery prior to May 1945 but also if anyine can confirm if it was also known as Lager Oerbke to the Germans prior to 1945?

Why are there no old AK (postcards) of it from the time? There are plenty for Truppenuebungsplatz Bergen and Truppenuebungsplatz Munster-Lager, both close by.
Anyone know when it was built/completed/opened?
Was it also used to test/develop Tiger tanks?
Didn't the Scandanavian Waffen-SS train there?
Was it used mainly for Panzer troops?
Does anyone have ANY imagery available?

Thanks.

Thanks for your replies. Just want to clarify that the prisoner of war/forced labour camps at Fallingbostel are not in my area of research. For my purposes Truppenuebungsplatz Bergen should also be seen as an entirely seperate facility, although located in close proximity.

C'mon guys, who knows more about the mysterious, shadowy Lager Oerbke/Fallingbostel??? Where are you?

I'm getting the feeling that this was the Wehrmachts Area 51......

What exactly are you searching for?
I stay for 3 or 4 times a year on the Bergen Übungsplatz and staying at Camp Oerbke or Hörsten.

The training area is partially used as shooting range and training area, bounded by a 65km long 'Panzer Ringstrasse', which is public road at some parts.
The area is boxed in by Münster in the North, Bergen in the East, Ostenholz/Westenholz in the South and in the West you've Fallingborsel where the 7th UK Armoured Brigade stays.

During the WW2 the area was used for mostly Waffen-SS units which were transferred here for rest and refitting. Trains could load at the Fallingbostel rail-rampe and drive straight into the training-area.
