Awards for a Panzer Grenadier
Hi all, its been along time. Anyway, my question is this: For a Rottenfuhrer,(or any rank, i guess) what would the exact items be for a him as a Panzer Grenadier? Im not talking about heroic stuff (close combat, or Iron cross or wound badge). If he has been in a few battles, what would go on his left breast pocket? Thanks.
Hi Krupp,
if the soldier took part in enough battles to fit the criteria, then he would recive the Infatry Assault Badge. http://www.wehrmacht-awards.com/war_bad ... ssault.htm
If he participated in armoured assaults he could also get a Panzer Assault Badge. http://www.wehrmacht-awards.com/war_bad ... _badge.htm
I don't know why you would call Wound badge to be awarded to heroes. My grandfather recieved one in silver and he never was into heroics - as far as he told me.

Besides the already mentioned Infanterie Sturmabzeichen, Panzerkampf abzeichen and wounded badge, the (panzer)grenadier could also wear the Eisernen Kreuz II.Klasse or even Eisernen Kreuz I.Klasse.
Not neccessary heroic awards, but rather confirmation of his capability to stand and fight, being a reliable soldier during combat. It could result in being awarded the EK 1.
IMO every one who goes into battle without running away is brave, the only heroes are those who are dead
