Hi Greenhorn,

Thanks for that site.

It illustrates quite well that, although the Anglo-Americans were not generally very distinguished at fighting in WWII, in the broadest sense they were arguably the best at conducting war.

Sid I was surprised that they started planning in early 42 to build the pipeline and tested it in June 42....

I think it shows remarkable optimism.

Do I not recall reading that within months of assuming the Prime Ministership (in the darkest hours just after Dunkirk), Churchill ordered the striking of a committee to study an invasion of the continent and all that would entail?

Forward thinking and planning for what really matters, rather than allowing oneself to be consumed by the problems of the moment and losing sight of the forest for the trees, is one of the signal characteristics of effective higher leadership.
