Luftwaffe Feldpost number L. 54382: Need Help

Post by esquire93 »

Can anyone tell me what Luftwaffe units were at Feldpost L. 54382? Also, does the "L." stand for "Luftwaffe" or something else? Researching an M42 helmet.

Thanks for the Help... Matt

3.Battr.schw.Flak-Abt.625 (o)

3rd battery, heavy anti-aircraft battalion 625.

This unit was formed in 1942 in Luftgau VI in Bielefeld. In 1944 it is listed as having likely been used as the framework for the formation of schw.Eisnb.Flak.Abt.625, although I don't find another reference to this new unit. Hope this helps!

... "L" stands for Luftwaffe.

Also, Michael Holm's website http://www.ww2.dk, or more precisely http://www.ww2.dk/ground/flak/abt/s625.html
has some information (with discrepancies?).

Meaning of the letter 'o' and/or 'v'

Post by Laurens »

Hello,

I wonder about the meaning of the letter 'o' located between the two brackets. I've researched some field post numbers in the past and in some occasions I came across the letter 'v' too.
  • 3.Battr.schw.Flak-Abt.625 (o)
    5.Battr.gem.Flak-Abtl. 191 (v)
    ...
I have no idea about the 'o', but I think the 'v' stands for 'verlegbar'. Anyone with a clear answer?

Thank you,
Laurens

(o) & (v)

(o) = ortsfest = fixed location

(v) = verlegefaehig = semi-motorised (these units originally had the acronym "t.mot", teil motorisiert).

To move a (v) unit required the assistance of a Flaktransportbatterie (a motorised troop of 200 men) .

Thank you for clearing this up...
I'll make sure to take a look tomorrow when you have changed your post. Maybe my word 'verlegbar' isn't that far away from the correct abbreviation.

Best Regards,
Laurens

k-pp, you are correct in the meaning of the (o) and (v) in regards to these units. Sorry I didn't post that with my original message.
