Meinel & Herold Flute

Post by Rosemary »

I am looking for some information regarding a German WWII flute. It is ebony (I believe) and was made by Meinel and Herold. It is marked with an eagle above the swastika symbol and dated 1937. Does anyone have any information about this flute? Many thanks in advance for your time and consideration.

Flute

The only thing that comes to my mind is the possibility that this could be an old BdM flute. They were the ones who used fifes and flutes much more than anyone else in the HJ.

If it is black and bears the swastika, then it surely is NOT of ebony, but blackened hardwood. Germany, at that time, did not import tropical woods for such purposes. It would be another story if that were for a legitimate flute maker who had orders from philharmonic orchtestras, etc.

My idea; and I hope it helps you. Joscha
