Max Hansen

Post by derGespenst »

Does anyone know what happened to Max Hansen (LSSAH) after the war? I understand he retired to Flensburg, but beyond that I know nothing about him.

I found these few line in Michale Reyonlds " Steel Inferno , page 286.
"Max Hansen became an SS Colonel in February 1945. After the war he and his wife ran a cleaning shop in Niebull but he spent his last three or four years as little more than a living corpse - "his brain and soul already being in Valhalla" as a comrade put it".

One can only have the utmost sympathy for Herr Hansen and his family , life can be extremely cruel in the twilight of our years.
Rest in Peace.
" Life , to be sure is nothing much to loose ; But young men think it is , and we were young . "
A.E. Housman.

Pro patria mori. " Wilfred Owen (M.C.).

I would like to know more about Max Hansen than his basic facts.
Most commanders of the LSSAH got their book/exhausting bio about them but not him. I wonder why? :?:

Apart from Meyer and Peiper, who have? There's nothing on Wisch, Mohnke, Schönberger, Kuhlmann, Pötschke, Gross, Frey, Schiller, Kraas, Sandig, Becker, Knittel, Rettlinger or Ullerich to name a few. Hansens lacking biography is in good company.

Wisch and Mohnke are covered in detail in "Waffen-SS Commanders" vol. 2. Potschke's full bio is in my new German Cross volume.
