Panzer Crews at night

General WWII era German military discussion that doesn't fit someplace more specific.

Panzer Crews at night

Post by Rob S. »

Where did they sleep? Did they just lay down inside the tank or did they have tents? I'm sorry if this is a basic question but it is rather funny that I couldn't answer it myself.

most pictures I have seen of panzer crews, they bivouaced (is correct spelled?) next to the tanks, with the shelter quarters tied to the tank' sides, and where there where danger situations, some slept under the tanks, in small shalow tranches dug ad-hoc.

also, I have been told, when available, any buildiong would do, or to stretch a little more, the back of any truck...

I have also seen photos of crews in cold climates using sleeping bags underneath their tanks. Can't imagine that this would be comfortable but I suppose that it is better than crashing out in a cramped tank with four other blokes snoring and farting! :D
