Does anybody know who was put in charge as Btl.Kdr of the II./SS-Pz.Gren.Rgt 23 "NORGE" after the death of Hstuf. Richard Spörle on 17.4.45 near Ihlow.

In march 1945 Stubaf. Fritz Vogt left this unit to take command of the SS-Pz.AufklAbt. 5 Wiking. A new Btl.Kdr appeared in the I./23 - Stubaf. Barth (does not exists in the BDC holdings), could anyone confirm the right name of the new Btl.Kdr of the I./23 in March 1945? The place were he took over was located to the village of Urkut/Hungary.

Hi folks!

On 14.|1.44 the I./23, located to the two villages Ssinkowitzy and Golubowitzy as a Koprs. reserve was alarmed and got their battle orders.

The Btl. went in motorized column in about midday 14.1.44 attached were the 3./SS-Stg.Gesch.Abt. 11 "Nordland" under the command of Hstuf. Kurt Ellersiek. The Btl. went into action in the area around Kosherizy, and all KIA/MIA reports from WASt gives the location of the Btl. to this village between 14.1-24.1.44. But I personally beleive that the Btl. saw action (battle reports from 1 and 3. Cp available) north of this town. Elements of the 3./SS-Pz.Aufkl.Abt. 11 had KIA/MIAs on 15/16.1.44 near Kapylowka, located some 4-5 km northeast of Kosherizy.

The I./23 got under heavy russian fire around a village in the morning of 15.1.44 and the Btl. withdrew south into new positions.

Has anybody no idea of the name of the village were I./23 saw their first action with the russian 2. Stoss Armee?

Another question is the Stellenbesetzung I./23, who could fill in the missing names of officers or higher NCOs.

Hi!

On 13.2.44 Stubaf. Albrecht Krügel (Kdr. II./Norge) led a battlegroup consisting of three companies (later five companies of Rgt. Norge) to retake the village of Siiversti located north of the city of Narwa/Estonia. This battlegroup had many casualties and the 11./23 lost three company cmdrs on one day. In march 1944 the 7 and 11./23 was regrouped together.

I am interesting in aditional information on this battlegroup and its later cmdr. Hstuf. Michael Thöny.

Hello!
I have heard about the mysterious Stubaf Barth replacing Spörle. Unfortunately I have no other info on him, as "Barth" was a most common name, and I simply cannot find him anywhere. The Btl was then commanded by Ostuf. Radtke, it says - I have no other info than that he is said to have been Spörles adjoint.

I do have a roster for 23. "Norge", but I do not know how correct it is. I have found small errors, and can not cite any source - as I can´t remember where I found it at all! Probably someone sent it to me by mail some years ago.

Just to add to your "Norge" files, I have soldbuch entries from late 1943 signed by Max-Friedrich Heinze and Richard Spörle bearing the FP Nr 32878 B for the Norge Regiment.

Hello Björne,
"Somewhere" there should be an SS Haupsturmführer Friedrich Ziegler in there. or perhaps at the time he still was an Ostuf.
The only thing i know is that he was an advisor / trainer with Legion Norwegen, during the 1940's, and saw action with them at the East Front.
Do you have any info on him ??? (I was his "krad, rad, fuss und bauch melder* at Arnhem and thereafter) * "Motorcycle, Bicycle, walking / running, and Crawling dispatch runner."
Thanks,

Hello HaEn!
Correct, Ziegler was with the Norwegian Legion, and I know a few veterans who knew him well. He was one of the few Germans to get the "Frontkjemper"-badge from Norwegian NS authorities.

I do also have a few pictures of him from the Legion period.

I do however believe, that he did not serve with 23. "Norge" until the Berlin battle in 45, when he was killed. I must admit I am not sure.

Hello!
There was another Ziegler in Rgt Norge, a General and commander. "Our" Ziegler was transferred from the Norwegian Legion to Landstorm Nederland. I do believe he survived the war.

To add some more references to the discussion. I see Otto von Bargen mentioned in the OOB's. I have some more information on him here.

Can add that Hstuf Friedrich-Christian Ziegler also was chief of staff for Landstorm Nederland April-may 1945.
